TYPES OF GLUE

There are many kind of glues in the world for many materials and handmade workings. But we are using epoxy glue for construction wooden boats like all the other boat builders because of better potential with woods and plywoods. There are 2 different kind of epoxy. POXY-SHIELD and POXY-GRIP products are both excellent 2 part epoxy adhesives, yet each has markedly different qualities.

Primarily, POXY-SHIELD is a low-viscosity (very fluid) product ideal for coating, laminating, gluing, and encapsulating wood, but whose applications can be extended with the addition of our various fillers. POXY-GRIP, on the other hand, is a high-viscosity ready-to-use (after mixing) structural adhesive not intended for coating or encapsulating, but not requiring any additives or modifications either.

First, we realized that not all builders of all sizes and types of boats would choose or need the benefits of the total GLEN-L Epoxy Encapsulation System. For example, smaller dinghies, rowboats, and similar craft built at a low cost, or craft not intended for ultimate longevity, can still have the high-strength gap-filling bonds provided by our POXY-GRIP epoxy structural adhesive.

As a glue, POXY-GRIP is superior to all other types of boat building glues, including plastic resin and resorcinol types. In general, the same recommendations that apply to the building of any craft using other materials or processes applies to building your boat with the GLEN-L Epoxy System.

While often seen, do not build your boat in an open area exposed to direct sunlight. Build indoors or under cover whenever possible, protected from the direct sun as well as direct exposure to other elements. Ideal working temperatures range between 70oF and 85oF, although plus-or-minus about 5oF still allows good conditions for most aspects of the work.
